De Haar Castle and Utrecht

On our free weekend, we visited the best of Holland, De Haar Castle and Utrecht.

De Haar Castle (Kastel De Haar)

The largest castle in the Netherlands, Kastel de Haar, is located 40 minutes from Amsterdam and 20 minutes from Utrecht by car. The road leads through farms to the castle. You can't get lost because everything is signposted in the direction of the castle. The castle has its own parking lot, you can go by car or bicycle, but you have to pay for it. Visitors can choose from several tickets, as the Castle and the park can be visited separately. Although we were not inside the castle, because dogs are not allowed inside, the park is 55 hectares, full of small paths, lakes, and bridges. I think that this is a full-day program for those who want to take a close look at everything in and around the castle. Before traveling, it is worth checking out what programs are in the castle, as feasts, weddings and the Elfia outdoor costume event are also held here.

Utrecht

Utrecht is one of the oldest settlements in the Netherlands and the fourth largest city in terms of population. It is quite difficult to get around by car, it is worth leaving the car in a parking lot and moving around the city on foot. The fastest growing city in the Netherlands, with lots of attractions and a pleasant atmosphere, is also a program of at least one day. One of its attractions is the Dom tower (Domtoren), which is the highest church tower in the country, 112.2 meters high. Although it is currently under renovation (May 2022), it is a wonderful asset to the city.

How did we get a corgi?

The dog who we know from the social media with short legs, breadbutt, who sleeps in strange poses.   How did we get a corgi?  The Corgi has little body, he is friendly and can be taught easily. They were used to guarding and herding cattle and sheep. We saw them first in Cowboy Bebop, a japanese anime about 5 years ago. It was love at first sight. We decided, we would like a corgi too. We moved abroad to a house with a garden, we think it will be good for a dog.   We searched for the first breeder in march of 2020. We wrote e-mails to or called every breeder that looked good in the country close by. These were about 20 Corgi Kennels. We got answers from 3-4 kennels. We would have had to wait with for a puppy or notify them of our need for a puppy in the spring of next year. Not to mention, that most of kennel chose wether you are suitabe for owning a dog after the personal meeting.   We started to plan a visit in June back home to Hungary in August, while we were searching and sending

The Venice of the Netherlands: Giethoorn

An unmissable spring and summer program if you visit the Netherlands. This small Dutch village is known for its bridges, waterways and points. It was called the “Venice of the Netherlands”. Giethoorn is elongated and consists of three neighbourhoods. Farms and houses are separated by canals. History Giethoorn was a settlement of peat farmers, but later they switched to animal husbandry. The canals were originally dug to drain peat and were used for transport and traffic, but they became increasingly important for agriculture. Many houses were built on islands, so to speak, which can only be reached by bridges. More than 176 bridges were built in the village, but most of them are privately owned. Getting there The village is located in the northern part of the Netherlands. It takes a little more than an hour and a half to get there by car from Amsterdam. Parking lots are scattered throughout the village. There are free ones, but there are also paid ones. At least 2 hours by public trans

Pumpkin Lantern Festival 2018

We visited the Pumpkin Lantern Festival this year as well. The event started at 7 pm but we arrived earlier. This was a good decision, because there were lots of people at 6.30 pm. All of Heroes square was full with pumpkins right after 7 pm. There were classic pumpkin lanterns and references from films and books. Take a look at the picture gallery to discover more references.    Links:  https://vikcsypru.wixsite.com/links TravelGram:  https://www.instagram.com/travel_girl_vik/ Patreon:  https://www.patreon.com/ivikkencsdesignandart
